Sustainability
At Specialist Group, we are passionate about our planet.
We have led the way in sustainable practices, having begun our sustainable future initiative back in 1990 with a significant purchase of forestry lands.
Since then, our commitment to sustainable practices has been demonstrated in a variety of ways, from renewable energy sources to eliminating waste, and everything in between.
Our Environmental Excellence Strategy includes:

Environmental Accreditation
We operate ISO 14001, FSC and PEFC certification and can make a measurable contributiuon to a project’s sustainability credentials when measured though LEED, BREEAM, SKA and WELL frameworks.

Lean Manufacturing
Our weekly production value is in excess of £350k so our getting it right first time policy of ‘Measure Twice, Cut Once’ is invaluable to the company. We have embraced lean manufacturing principles since 2014 and conduct reviews and improvements to all our processes.

Optimal Sheet Material Use
The use of material optimisation software achieves optimal
use of materials for all our product outputs, making
our production processes much more efficient.

Sustainable Procurement Policy
Our Sustainable Procurement Policy governs all procurement decisions, ensuring we deliver on our clients’ requirements, whilst meeting wider company goals to minimise our environmental impact and achieve wider social community benefits.

Research & Development
Our procurement department methodically devotes time on a weekly basis to researching environmentally sustainable alternative products, including water based (solvent free) paints, stains and lacquers and recycled/reclaimed materials

ZERO Waste Policies
Since 2021, Specialist Groups has operates a ZERO
waste to landfill and ZERO environmental incidents
policies.

Reduction in Electricity Usage
Energy consumption is measured diligently across a broad spectrum of uses. To aid the reduction in consumption, we have invested in VSD (Variant Speed Drives) on our factory machinery and installed a motion and light sensor system to control lighting use.

Improved Energy Efficiency
Specialist Group HQ has been heated by a Biomass
boiler since 2008, fuelled effectively by waste timber
materials from our production operations

Reduction in Water Usage
Our water consumption is monitored on an ongoing basis as part of our ISO14001 accreditation and we educate our workforce on reduction techniques through toolbox talks. This reduction is aided by the installation of low flush toilets and aerated water taps in our sinks
Sustainability for us as a business is more than protecting our planet:
- It’s protecting and developing our people.
- It’s helping those in our society less fortunate than ourselves.
- It’s enhancing the communities in which we live.
- It’s providing a positive future; a planet in which our children can thrive.
