Thrive is connected to our Academy, a joinery apprenticeship programme, helping young people develop skills, confidence and career opportunities within Specialist.
Strive extends that commitment into primary and secondary schools through partnerships, school visits, work experience and wider learning opportunities, including support for educational visits.

Carbon Neutral 2026
Sustainability at Specialist is built on measurable improvements. We continually review our energy use, material efficiency and waste management, investing in smarter processes that reduce our environmental impact without compromising quality.
From lean manufacturing and machine efficiency upgrades, to LED lighting, resource monitoring and responsible waste management, every improvement moves us closer to our goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2026.
It’s a commitment embedded in how we operate every day – continually improving the way we work for the benefit of our people, our customers and the environment.
Timber Chain of Custody
Responsible timber sourcing is central to how Specialist works. Our ISO 14001, FSC® and PEFC certifications support responsible procurement and contribute to project sustainability requirements across frameworks including LEED, BREEAM, SKA and WELL.
Our chain of custody processes provide full traceability from source to installation, giving clients confidence that certified timber can be verified throughout the supply chain.
Renewable Energy Investment
We continue to invest in technologies that reduce energy demand and make better use of resources across our facilities.
Since 2008, our headquarters has been heated by a biomass boiler fuelled by waste timber from production. Combined with variable speed drive (VSD) technology, intelligent lighting controls and ongoing monitoring of electricity and water consumption, these investments help reduce waste, improve efficiency and lower our environmental impact.
Woodland Partnership
Our commitment to responsible forestry extends beyond sourcing. Through woodland partnerships and tree planting, we help restore natural habitats, enhance biodiversity and create healthier local landscapes for future generations.
By investing in projects beyond our own sites, we’re supporting long-term environmental improvement while giving our people the opportunity to play an active role in protecting the places where we live and work.
