A stronger London operation
Specialist’s headquarters in Maghera remains at the centre of the Group’s design and manufacturing capability.
From Northern Ireland, our teams coordinate and manufacture complex joinery, glass, metal and door packages for projects across the UK and Ireland. Specialist’s in-house logistics operation then retains control of manufactured items from the factory through to their carefully sequenced delivery.
But a growing portfolio of work in London creates different day-to-day requirements.
Sites need access to tools, plant, samples, consumables and frequently used materials. Equipment must be stored securely between projects. Smaller items need to reach teams without creating another long-distance movement from Maghera.
The new London storage centre provides that local support.
The facility will:
- Hold a controlled stock of frequently used materials
- Store Specialist-owned plant and equipment between projects
- Provide a distribution point for samples, deliveries and site-bound items
- Support better coordination across London projects
- Give site and installation teams faster access to essential resources
A dedicated member of the Specialist Installation Team has been appointed to manage warehouse operations and coordinate distribution.
That ownership is important. The value of the facility lies not simply in having more space, but in knowing what is held there, where it needs to go and when each project requires it.
Supporting divisional growth
The London centre arrives as Specialist continues to expand its capability across the Group.
Joinery remains central, supported by dedicated glass, metal, doors and installation expertise. As those divisions grow, so does the need to coordinate more materials, equipment and delivery requirements across live projects.
The development of Specialist Core makes that local infrastructure particularly relevant.
Built specifically around the pace and demands of the London market, Specialist Core brings together experienced fit-out professionals capable of responding quickly as projects, programmes and priorities change.
That responsiveness must be supported operationally.
The storage centre gives Core and the wider Specialist operation a practical base from which to support projects, mobilise resources and respond to changing site needs.
It does not replace Maghera’s manufacturing capability. It connects that capability more effectively to the point of delivery.
Smarter movement through the city
The newest addition to the Specialist fleet strengthens that connection further.
Our electric van has been introduced to support local movement between the storage centre and London sites, transporting samples, tools, equipment and smaller project items where they are needed.
An electric vehicle is particularly suited to this kind of city-based work, providing zero tailpipe emissions while in operation and supporting a more efficient local distribution model.
The environmental benefit is not only about changing the vehicle.
Holding the right stock and equipment closer to projects can help reduce avoidable long-distance journeys, consolidate smaller movements and make better use of the Group’s wider transport fleet.
The warehouse changes the logistics model.
The van helps deliver it.
Sustainability through operations
Specialist’s approach to sustainability has always been rooted in how the business operates.
It can be seen in lean manufacturing, material-optimisation software, responsible procurement, timber chain-of-custody certification, zero-waste policies and the use of production waste to help heat our Maghera headquarters.
The London investment carries the same thinking into logistics.
It is a practical attempt to bring environmental and operational performance together: positioning resources more intelligently, reducing unnecessary movement and choosing lower-emission transport where it is suited to the work.
One warehouse and one electric van will not transform the environmental impact of construction logistics.
But progress is made through specific changes that improve how work happens every day – and through measuring their effect so the next decision can go further.
Closer to the work
The new centre gives Specialist’s London teams a stronger operational base. It supports the continued growth of Core and the Group’s specialist divisions. It also improves the connection between Maghera manufacturing and London delivery.
For clients and contractors, that should translate into something straightforward:
The right resources, closer to site, controlled by the people responsible for delivering them.
Because scaling successfully is not about adding distance or complexity.
It is about getting closer to the work.
