Scale Is Earned

Thirty-eight years after Specialist began, the business has completed its biggest year to date. The milestone matters, not simply because of where we are, but because of what it has taken to get here.

Of course growth can be measured in numbers. For us, the more important measure is what a business builds behind them:

The people. The knowledge. The processes. The manufacturing capability. The capacity to take on more complex work without losing control of the details that earned clients’ trust in the first place.

As Specialist marks 38 years in business, we have also closed our 2025/26 financial year with turnover exceeding £55 million.

It is a significant achievement. But the number is not the whole story.

The real achievement is the business we built to deliver it.

From craft to capability

Specialist began in 1988 with a team of ten and a clear commitment to doing things properly.

Craft remains central to the business, but the scale and scope surrounding it have changed considerably.

Today, more than 300 people work across an integrated group delivering complex projects throughout the UK and Ireland. Joinery has been complemented  by dedicated glass, metal and door capabilities, supported by design, manufacturing, logistics and installation teams working as one.

That structure has been developed deliberately.

It gives Specialist greater oversight of a project from early technical coordination through manufacture and delivery to final installation. It allows information to move more clearly between teams and gives clients greater confidence that design intent will be protected throughout the process.

The business has grown, but the standard has travelled with it.

Built by people

No structure delivers without the right people inside it.

Many of Specialist’s current leaders began their careers on the workshop floor, as apprentices or in operational roles. They progressed by learning the work from the inside and taking increasing ownership of how it is delivered.

That knowledge now runs throughout the Group and it can be seen in:

  • The designer resolving a difficult junction before manufacture begins.
  • The production team identifying a better way to sequence the work.
  • The project manager anticipating pressure on programme.
  • The installer protecting the finish when the project reaches site.

It is also carried forward through the Specialist Academy, leadership development and continued investment in training.

People have not simply supported Specialist’s growth. They have made it possible.

Stronger at every stage

Over the past year, Specialist has continued to strengthen the business around the demands of complex project delivery.

Teams and capacity have grown across design, manufacture and installation. Specialist Core has brought together experienced commercial fit-out professionals to provide a responsive delivery structure for the London market. Continued development across glass, metal and doors has expanded the expertise available within the Group.

  • The first Specialist Supply Chain Event brought key partners closer to the business, aligning expectations around programme, standards and delivery.
  • InSites opened completed projects to architects, designers and prospective clients, allowing them to experience Specialist’s work first-hand.
  • Partnerships with CoreNet UK Young Leaders and Mix Interiors have kept Specialist actively involved in wider conversations about people, design, technology, sustainability and the future of commercial interiors.

These may appear to be separate developments. Together, they show a business preparing carefully for its next stage.

Excellence at scale

Scale creates opportunity. It also creates responsibility.

More projects and broader capability cannot mean more distance between teams, less visibility or lower expectations. Growth only works when the systems, relationships and standards beneath it become stronger too.

That is what Excellence in Everything means for Specialist.

It is not a claim that everything is perfect. It is a commitment to set the standard, work as one, own the outcome, care about the detail and keep improving.

Those principles connect the workshop to the boardroom, Maghera to London, and the earliest design conversation to the final installation.

They are how Specialist has grown without losing sight of what matters.

Ready for what follows

Thirty-eight years deserves recognition. Our biggest year deserves pride.

But longevity and achievement matter most when they strengthen what a business can do next.

Specialist enters its next chapter with experienced people, integrated capability and a structure built to adapt to the demands of each project. The foundations are deeper. The reach is greater. The standard remains clear.
